Week 05 Day 34, 14th July '11 (Thur)

Strange blocky specular highlights solved
People pointed out some areas which I could look at and one of them resolved the problem. Thanks again to are2d2 and zarti!

It was due to tangents which could be fixed by diving into the shader, go to "Surface Model VOP" and switch Tangent Style to "Object-Space".

Tested on different options to see results, appears that all of them can fix the problem.

This one give a different look, the reflection and specular highlight became more obvious...
Not sure what's going on. At least my problem is gone!

02_Hammer Turntable
With that silly highlight fixed, I send it to render while I moved on to work on the molten shader.

Documenting/Tweaking Molten Shader
Documented everything I understood from yesterday, it was quite a lot to digest. Afraid i'll have to go back to Charles for a bit more explanation on some part of the shader.

Played around with the parameters and feeding different part of the network into the Cf Output to see what kind of results are being generated visually.

These are some of the patterns (Cracks, Noise &Polka-Dots) generated with noise operators used as a mask for both surface and displacement shading.

Came a long way in a short time, felt like speeding through the freeway.

Broken Molten Shader Problem
Everything was working well over here when i'm testing it on a grid, wanted to copy the shader over to my scene file and see how my embossed text and surface would look with this shader assigned.

It weren't the "UVProject SOP", uv attributes & this isn't a PBR shader "yet"... might have to give forum a shot.

Expression Training by Charles
(Rolling horse animation driven by expressions)
The lesson was about usage of expressions followed by a practical demonstration of animating a rolling horse using chain of xform nodes with various expressions consisting of sin() & cos(). Won't go into details, will try to flipbook the sequence as soon as the laptop stops giving me fatal error when i do it!

Charles happen to show us his demo reel before starting the practical, to illustrate what we're trying to do - one of his project where a walking toy was animated using expressions, awesome!

Review by Ari and Aliza
Ari and Aliza would be looking at our progress, Steven isn't in today due to work. I showed leica reel, previs, hammer turntables, molten shader R&D, sh020 test renders respectively, it was Aliza's first time checking out our progress, admit i was slightly nervous!

They gave their comments on what I've got so far and making sure none of us are behind schedule & are managing our time well. Was acknowledged with a "good progress" at the end of the review, don't know why - those words kept ringing in my head that day, hehe.

Dinner Time
Believe the guys went to buy Burger King tonight, wanted to avoid fast food as much as i can, prepared my own at home. Rate it 7/10, it was above average!

The bun thingy was purchased at Vons (Supermarket) though.
